The Indian unit of US auto maker General Motors, reports that it had a record rise in sales. Sales were led by its compact car Spark and Aveo sedan.
General Motors India Pvt. Ltd., is targeting a 10% market share of the country's booming vehicle market by 2010. It sold 5,817 units in August compared with 2,720 units sold last year.
The company said this is the highest monthly sales ever achieved by GM India since its inception.
GM markets its products in India under the Chevrolet brand name. August's sales of its Spark auto were 1,962 units while the Aveo sales were 1,567 units.
Additionally General Motors India also sells the Optra sedan, Tavera multi-utility vehicle and the Aveo U-VA and SRV hatchbacks in the country.
Ford Motor expects its Brazilian auto sales to slow next year. Its business during 2007 experienced a surge in demand that appears to have been based on improved credit conditions.
