Appeasement

  Bush Will Try Another Secretary

President Nixon tried appeasement when he sanctioned and signed into law the Environmental Protection Agency, the EPA. He also presided over the first Earth Day. Appeasement failed.
Nixon's appeasements failed to get the media, the law, American people, and Congress off Nixon's case. He lost the big battles over the Watergate scandal and was forced to resign.
President Bush nominated Henry Paulson for Secretary of the Treasury. Paulson is currently Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Chief Executive.
Paulson is also active in the global save the environment movement. He is a contributor to and advocate of green issues including the Kyoto Protocol.
Is President Bush trying a Nixonian gimmick?
As with Nixon, President Bush is so thoroughly disliked by his adversaries and has lost much respect among his supporters. It is unlikely Bush will have the skill to outmaneuver his adversaries in order to make any gains.
There is so much bad judgment everywhere today that good judgment, if it ever reappears, will be seen as bad judgment.
