Opportunity. Imagine the
opportunity. Imagine being the President of the United States of
America. Thanks to centuries of struggles and successes, the
President of the USA is the most powerful person in history. Even
with only about 50% of Americans' support, he should be capable of
accomplishing much. |
|
Obstacles. Imagine the obstacles.
It is difficult to accomplish anything in any job. Even the car wash
worker has to work hard to get every car clean and dry. But the
president has to overcome all the self-centered, stupid,
ignorant, political, wasteful obstacles set up by members of the US
Congress. That is over 500 - primarily lawyers - who understand
little, fail to comprehend how to accomplish much, need to pander to
their unthinking constituents in order to get reelected, and care
little for the United States of America. |
|
Regardless
of all opportunities, powers, and obstacles, the president of the US
should be capable of accomplishing a few big things in a first term and
some seriously grand achievements during a second term. |
|
President Bush had a rare
opportunity handed him. That was the opportunity of being president
on 9/11/2001. Following the divisive and massively self-centered
fight to the death perpetrated by Al Gore following the 2000
election, the nation was filled with hatred and contention. Al
Gore incited a split in the American people which opened every wound
including racism, religion, financial status, and other aspects
which differentiate people. |
|
Nevertheless immediately following
9/11, most Americans were afraid and insecure. Most looked to their
president for strong leadership. President Bush failed to comprehend
what his role was. Today President Bush continues to operate with a lack of understanding of his role. |
|
President Bush fails to see that
his role is to maintain the dignity of the office he assumed from that
disdainer of the presidency, Bill Clinton. President Bush fails to
see that he is in charge and has power. He fails to see that his
role is to set policy, establish goals, hire cabinet members to
implement, and ensure follow through and accomplishment. |
|
President Bush has waged the War
Against Terrorism as well as it could be waged at this early stage.
All of us make mistakes - even great presidents. |
|
If only President Bush had done
the following one thing, he would be accepted by the majority of
thinking, informed Americans. |
The one task that needed to have
been accomplished and realistically should have been accomplished
is:
-- Establish policy and framework for building domestic nuclear power facilities
and increasing domestic oil exploration, drilling and refining. |
|
This task is at the presidential
level. Had it been accomplished, the United States would be
more assured of maintaining its greatness. |
|
US greatness will not be assured
until energy independence has been achieved. Energy independence
would over-shadow ongoing difficulties. |
